This is a good question, but difficult to answer.

It depends on what we are encompassing. For example, there are chemicals that reach well over 1,000 characters. But some may not consider that a 'true word'. There are amino-acids, proteins, and many conditions that all are very long in character length.

They may be the biggest words in existence but they will not appear inside a dictionary, the opinion of one being the longest word is down to subjective preference. (There is some semantical dispute over wether this word is.. actually a word.)

Titin"Titin is a giant protein that functions as a molecular spring which is responsible for the passive elasticity of muscle. It is composed of 244 individually folded protein domains connected by unstructured peptide sequences." -Titin:Wikipedia

This word contains 189,819 characters.

Methionylthreonylthreonylglutaminylarginl... threonylserylprolylserylglutaminy
