In the book "Blindsided" Natalie O'Reilly finds out she will go blind in a short periode of time. She finally is sent to a school for disable children in Baltimore. At first Natalie does not want anything to do with the skills she needs to learn, but when she goes completely blind she starts to use the skills she has been taught. When Natalie goes completely blind she has an option of going home perminantly but chooses to go back to the special school. When Natalie visits home for Christmas break her friend Merideth and her watch Natalies goat while it is in labor. While the two friends are in the barn a bear trys to break in but Merideth shoots it. Scientists take the bear to see if it is rabid or not and later find out it is. The whole story gets in the paper and Natalie heads back to school after New Years Eve.
