The medium is what makes the picture, sculpture etc. Oil paint is the commonest medium in painting, but there are also acrylic, tempera, crayon, ink, watercolor, etc. A sculpture is often made of marble or bronze, which is the medium of the work. Modern art also uses other media as e.g. video.
