the term 'sleep on it' means that you are faced with a difficult problem or situation and you need to take some time to think about it. not for sure exactly why they say sleep on it though...but that's what it means!
Possible origination: In the turn of the 20th century, there was an individual, Edgar Cayce, known as "The Sleeping Prophet". He gave over 14,000 readings, most of them health while in a sleeping state and helped all those who followed the instructions he received in that state. In some of them, he referenced ancient civilizations that existed which we today know very little of. As a young boy, he was not that good of a good student. Had difficulty with his homework and memorizing. One night as he was trying to memorize his assignment with little success, he fell asleep on his school book. The next day at school, he knew everything that was in that book. Is it possible that the phrase originated from this incident? I don't know but it is an interesting idea. Can we actually learn, if we "Sleep On It"?
