If something is dysfunctional then it is not working as such things normally do. It has some impairment or abnormality.
I attended a seminar last night and the speaker was stating that the word Dysfunctional to mean bad, painful, abnormal functioning. I understand the Latin prefix of Dys is accurate displayed in this example. However she went on to use the word Disfunctional as meaning the absence of functionality, which would be less severe than the previously mentioned spelling Dysfunctional. So today I am searching for the spelling and meaning of the world Disfunctional...it appears to not be a word recognized in the American dictionary. Does anybody have any information which may be useful?

The "pre" in 'prefix' is one. It is something added to the front end of an existing word, thereby changing its meaning, think 'happy' and 'unhappy'. Other examples: mobile and automobile, activate and deactivate, functional and dysfunctional, legal and illegal, assembled and preassembled, market and supermarket. So making a sentence is easy: 'we went to the supermarket'; I am unhappy that my teacher is dysfunctional'; 'It is illegal to drive this type of automobile'.
