narrow

The old-fashioned word "strait' is not used today, except in certain expressions like the "straits of Gibraltar", or a "straitjacket" (to restrain violent mental patients), but you will find it in old writings such as the King James Bible; cf. "strait (straight) is the gate" meaning that only a minority of people can fit through the gates to heaven.

The primary opposite word of "wide" is narrow.
