Our Symbol
Simplicity is the key to our symbol; it imitates the simplicity of
our Fellowship. All sorts of occult and esoteric connotations can
be found in its simple outlines, but foremost in the minds of the
Fellowship are easily understood meanings and relationships.
The outer circle denotes a universal and total program that has
room within it for all manifestations of the recovering person.
The square, whose lines are defined, is easily seen and understood,
but there are other unseen parts of the symbol. The
square base denotes Good will, the ground of both the Fellowship
and the members of our society. Good will is best exemplified
in service; proper service is "Doing the right thing for the
right reason." When Good will supports and motivates both the
individual and the Fellowship, we are fully whole and wholly
free. Probably the last to be lost to freedom will be the stigma of
being an addict.
It is the four pyramid sides that rise from the base in a threedimensional
figure that represent Self, Society, Service, and God.
All rise to the point of Freedom. All parts are closely related to
the needs and aims of the addict who is seeking recovery, and to
the purpose of the Fellowship which is to make recovery available
to all. The greater the base, (as we grow in unity in numbers
and in fellowship) the broader the sides of the pyramid, and the
higher the point of freedom.
anonymity
The correct spelling is 'anonymous'.
narcotics
You only capitalise "anonymous" when it refers to a group: The woman joined Alcoholics Anonymous to stop her problem drinking. The Scientology website was hacked by activist group Anonymous. You do not capitalise it when it is being used as an adjective: Many of Lord Byron's plays are anonymous. I received an anonymous parcel, so am rather concerned.
Narcotics anonymous has no opinion on outside issues. A word is a word and does not have any meaning of expression unless one wishs to use it to establish themselves as more spiritual than the next person sitting in the room. Father martin said it best - if you are doing something i believe to be wrong and/or inapproiate and i'm not doing it then i, due to my inflated since of self, will deem myself better than you! Get over yourself, the english consider americans as inferior because we butcher the queens english. Oh what a day, the wars of the future will be fought over the words we use, instead of the god/buda/ali or whatever we are currently worshiping. The only true political correctness is to be yourself................
Narcotics Anonymous was created in 1953.
The phone number for the Narcotics Anonymous Hotline is 888-653-0269.

If we weren't all "anonymous," then EVERYONE would know who we are. If you want to understand more about this, research our traditions.
In Narcotics Anonymous, the term "self" typically refers to the individual's inner being, thoughts, emotions, and behavior. It often signifies self-awareness, introspection, and personal responsibility in recovery from addiction. By addressing and understanding their own "self," individuals in Narcotics Anonymous work towards personal growth and positive change.
As Narcotics Anonymous are really a group of wildly differing people, some do, while others do not. The one common attribute of people at Narcotics Anonymous is a desire to stop using narcotics and continue not using narcotics. The following is an opinion of one person, not of NA: Note that many people in NA are also in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Substituting one addition for another is not preferable. Also judgment is generally impaired while drinking alcohol, so overall it is not recommended. If it absolutely came down to drinking alcohol or taking narcotics, many might advise taking some alcohol to avoid taking narcotics. This should not be used as an excuse to drink alcohol.
Absolutely. NA understands that a drug is a drug.
