A Cockney is anybody that was/is born within the sound of the famous Bells of St Mary-le-Bow church in the City of London and not as most people think, the bells of Bow church in the east-end of London In general, the term is used to refer to working class Londoners from the East of the Capital.
In 2000, London actually did a study to see how far away the bells of St. Mary-le-Bow could be heard: six miles to the east, five miles to the north, three miles to the south, and four miles to the east of the church.
The Cockneys have their own secret language known only to the working class and lower class people of London (Cockney's) called Cockney rhyming slang.
