What is the point of view in tears of a tiger?

The mood is depressing and tragic throughout the novel. Jurgis is continuously damaged by deaths in his family, lack of finances, learning about his wife's rape, being imprisoned and living in such an unacceptable home, from these a grim mood is established. This gloomy emotion is maintained throughout the novel, and makes you feel for Jurgis and his hard life.
