Best Answer

The singular form for the noun data is datum.

"Datum" is so rare now in English that people assume "data" has no singular form. Many Americans use "data" as a singular and some have even gone so far as to invent "datums" as a new plural.

Wrong. Data is a collective noun and as such should always be treated as singular. e.g. a herd of cows a flock of sheep.

Comparing English and Latin grammar is apples to oranges. The word origin is interesting but irrelevant in this case.

No, the noun 'data' is the plural form of the singular noun 'datum'.

The noun 'data' is not a collective noun.

A collective noun is a word used to group people or things in a descriptive way.

Examples of collective noun for data are a collection of data, a flow of data, a range of data, etc.
