It narrates the story of yamuna, a Hindu Brahmin widow and her sorrows. the novel ends with yamuna's conversion to Christianity. Padmanji was one of the early converts to Chritianity from Maharashtra and also wrote a candid autobiography titled: Arunodaya (1888)
