Tally's friend Peris turns pretty.

Tally sneaks over to see him, and meets Shay, another Ugly.

After Tally and Shay become close friends, Shay runs away to the smoke, and leaves Tally directions to follow her if she wants.

Dr. Cable gives Tally a heart Necklace with a tracker that will activate whens she puts her eye to it, and tells her just to activate it in the smoke, so they could find it.

Tally meets David, and decides to burn the necklace, because she likes the Smoke.

Dr. Cable arrives with the specials who capture most the smokies, and Tally discovers that the tracker activates when damaged.

They tell her to get the necklace, and she tricks them and runs away, and finds David.

David and Tally rescue some of the smokies from Special Circumstances headquarters, But they find that Shay was already turned pretty and David's Dad; Az was killed in an experiment to try to forget the Lesions.

Tally tells David that she was the one who betrayed the smoke and then writes a full consent to take the pills that Maddy made to cure the lesions; Tally turns herself in to become pretty.

The books' about a girl named Tally Youngblood who is suppose to turn pretty until her best friend Shay decides to runaway. Then Special Circumstances finds out that Shay ran away. They said if Tall doesn't find Shay, then they won't turn her pretty. So Tally has to decided whether to turn Shay in or never turn pretty. Summary Tally Youngblood lives in a city where 16-year-olds receive an operation that makes them pretty. She is only a couple weeks away from joining her friend Peris in Pretty Town. While she is waiting to become 16, she meets Shay. Shay decides she doesn't want to become pretty and runs off to the Smoke, leaving Tally some clues. Just before her operation, she is threatened by Specials. She is to bring Shay back or never become pretty. Tally goes on a 7-day trip to the Smoke. There she falls in love with David, but accidentally activates a tracker that she brought with her. After breaking out of Special Circumstances, Tally decides to volunteer in testing an anti-pretty pill. She returns back to the city to end the story.
