'WATER WATCH' is a short story written by Pratibha Nath emphasizing on the need to conserve water. The story initiates with an elocution contest in the auditorium of Nalanda Senior School between class VIII and Class IX. The ausitorium was packed to the fullest and a ripple of excitement ran through the students. It was then the chance of Deepak mehra, a student of class IX B to deliver a speech. However, he had prepared well but still the clouds of timidity trapped his mind. Keeping all the points at glance he climbed the platform. As soon as he began to deliver his speech, a pour of self-confidence strengthened his soul. He began his speech with an eye-opening story of a fortress of Gagron whose might laid in the hands of water. It was eventually conquered by blocking the water supply. He further regarded water scarcity as the biggest problem that our country is facing. His captivating speech turned the contest into a matter of discussion. He explained the sharp decline of water table and the drying up of fields due to extreme shortage of water. All this astonished the entire audience and a thunder of applause filled the air. With on minute remaining of the alloted time for Deepak's speech, suddenly the Principal interrupted and asked other students for their opinions. Three of the boysshared their views regarding the matter of concern. Deepak, then continued his speech giving attention towards saving every drop of water. He proposed for the foundation of a society named Water Watch. Deepak's sterling performance seeked everyone's attention and certainly won the first prize at the elocution competition.
