The theme is mostly truth, but there are also other themes. Like Immaturity, manipulation of the facts, Distortion of the truth, Failure to take responsibility, media accountability and bias, local politics (the ends justifies the means), Understanding (or lack of it), and school system hypocrisy. All of these themes are represented throughout the book, although some are represented more strongly.
For example:
Instead of telling Ms. Narwin how he felt about her unfairness and her teaching Philip rebelled. (Immaturity)
When Philip tries to tell his father about school and why he isn't going out for track. (Lack of understanding on Philip's father's part, and failure to take responsibilityon Philip's part for lying about track.)

The real truth about the humming incident is never revealed. The two main characters are forced into unfortunate situations by careless, uncaring people and by events that spin rapidly out of control. No longer comfortable at Harrison High, Philip transfers unhappily to a private school, and Margaret Narwin resigns from her position.

In "Nothing But the Truth" by Avi, figurative language is used primarily through dialogue, symbolism, and irony. The characters' conversations often convey deeper meanings and emotions beyond their literal words, highlighting the theme of truth versus perception. Additionally, the title itself serves as a symbol of the conflict between honesty and the subjective nature of truth, while irony permeates the narrative, illustrating the consequences of misunderstandings and assumptions.
