This is pretty simple.
The writer is making a rather capricious deal with her heart that both she (the thinker) and it (the heart, holder of emotion) will together conspire to forget the man who has apparently spurned her. she instructs her heart what its job is (to forget the warmth, which makes sense from a heart's point of view) and she will forget "the light."
But she cautions her heart to tell her right away when its job of forgetting has been carried out, because she is afraid that if it takes the heart too long to forget, it will give her time enough to remember this man one more time...she will not be able to carry out her self-given assignment about the light..."to dim her thoughts." (here I slightly paraphrased, but you get the gist. It is as if she and her heart must do their jobs of forgetting simultaneously or forgetting will not be able to occur.
A very sweet, simple, actually cute, capricious, child-like poem. And in that lies the tone....it has a childlike simplicity which the writer and reader should both know. Surely the writer wishes it could be so easy to forget and just give instructions to her heart and to herself. Surely the reader wishes he/she could do the same when heartbroken, but that's not how things work.
