Tottel's Miscellany was the first collection of English poetry published by Richard Tottel (who mainly published books on law) in 1557 as Songes and Sonnettes (Songs and Sonnets). The main contributors were Sir Thomas Wyatt (96 poems) and Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey (40 poems). Both were influenced by Italian poets and this was the first time their poetry was printed for the common reader. The anthology falls under Elizabethan Literature, even though strictly speaking Queen Elizabeth I would not not occupy the throne until a year later.
