What does the idiom going to bed with the chickens mean?

This idiom, and the associated "wake up with the cows", means to go to bed early in the evening, so as to get good rest durign each night's sleep (and similarly, to wake up early, to utilise the daylight available instead of sleeping). It derives from a time when farming was dependent on being able to see what was going on. Chickens would go to bed around dusk; because there was little to do after this time, the farmer may as well sleep at this time too. Likewise, waking up when the cows do (around dawn) meant that the maximum of daylight could be used; the cows would also need milking at that time, so it was doubly a good idea.

What is the origin of the phrase 'silver lining'?

I am aware of the literary example in Milton's Comus but there must have been an original meaning he borrowed when he wrote Comus. This phrase originated during the American Civil War. Today this phrase is one of hope and optimism-i.e. though the skies are dark, something good is still there. Originally though, this phrase would have meant just the opposite. The "cloud" referred to was the plumes of smoke from the enemy artillery, and the "silver lining" was the glint of morning sun off the artillery in the background. Since many of the battles would start just before dawn, the soldiers were sometimes facing a confusing look at fog and smoke, in the predawn light. The veteran soldiers would tell the newcomers-"avoid the clouds with the silver lining", and soon those rookies would learn that "not every cloud has a silver lining" meaning they could head for the fog, which was doubly better as the haze was not from the artillery, and the fog itself offered some concealment. When the soldiers came home from the war, they would sometimes use the phrase "not every cloud has a silver lining" to mean that there were sometimes unexpected good things; but through the course of usage by those not knowledgeable of its origins, the "not" was soon dropped from the phrase.

What does bubble reputation mean?

Shakespeare uses the phrase in Jaques's "All the world's a stage" speech (2.7.138-165) in As You Like It. According to dictionary.net, one of the definitions (now obsolete) for bubble is: "A person deceived by an empty project." Since the soldier to whom the bard is referring is said to be "Seeking the bubble reputation / Even in the canon's mouth," bubble reputation could mean fame for participating in a project one believe's to be meaningful but is, in fact, not worthwhile. Shakespeare seems to be referring to a soldier's desire for renown based on his efforts in battle, even to the extent that he would sacrifice his life, but that this effort is empty because the war he is fighting is not noble or even necessary. Alternate View: A bubble is fragile and easily destroyed as is a mans reputation. The cannon's mouth is not that of his own cannon but the enemy's. He seeks that which is most fragile at a dangerous place, and therefore values his reputation highly, highly enough to risk his life for it. It is not wise to put 21st century values on 16th century words, and doubly unwise to put 21st Century thoughts and attitudes into 16th Century minds, the fit is poor at best.

Yes, each node in a doubly linked list contain a link to the previous as well as the next node. That is the definition of the doubly linked list.

singly linked list stores only the address of next node while doubly linked list stores the address of previous node and next node and hence it is called doubly linked list.
