Yes, the word 'them' is a personal pronoun.

A personal pronoun takes the place of a noun for a specific person or thing.

The pronoun 'them' is a plural pronoun that takes the place of a plural noun or two or more nouns.

The pronoun 'them' is an object pronoun that functions as the object of a verb or a preposition.

The corresponding plural, personal pronoun that functions as the subject of a sentence or a clause is 'they'.

Examples:

  • My parents are coming for a visit. I will be glad to see them. (the pronoun 'them' takes the place of the plural noun 'parents' as the object of the verb 'see')
  • Jack and Jill are coming for a visit. I made Sandwiches for them. (the pronoun 'them' takes the place of the nouns 'Jack and Jill' as the object of the preposition 'for')
  • The children will be home soon. They get out of school at three. (the pronoun 'they' takes the place of the plural noun 'children' as the subject of the second sentence)

"Thar's gold in them thar hills!" Just kidding....I wouldn't use that in an English test... How about "He lived with the Indians so long, that after a while, he absorbed their way of life and became one of them." "THEM" is a pronoun, taking the place of a proper name or names. For example, "Joe and Harry are coming over. Then I am going fishing with them." - Instead of "Joe and Harry are coming over, then I am going fishing with Joe and Harry."
