The books were written in three languages, i.e. 1. Sanskrit, 2. Prakrit, and 3.Tamil. The books were dealt with the religious beliefs and practices, the lives of kings, medicine and science. Besides, there were epics, poems, plays. However, the inscriptions were written on hard surfaces such as stones/metals. Source: NCERT 6Th Social Chapter-1.
