Its either that or they can't be bothered to type the whole word (if on computer) so they use a shorter version of it. Slang can mean a weakness in the vocabulary, or it can mean that a person is trying to fit in by using the same slang that they hear everyone else using.

When you pronounce a word by its syllables, you can break the word down into smaller pieces that make sounding out the word (if you dont know how to spell it) easier. try spelling supercalifragalisticexpialadocious. its easier with syllables right? su-per-cal-i-frag-a-lis-tic-ex-pe-al-a-do-cious. 'Cutting' it into smaller segments, or syllables, makes it much easier to spell than the entire word all at once.

In normal conversational Japanese, it's not normal to cuss... I think the localizers (the people who take a translation and make it more western) added Trunk's colorful vocabulary to make him contrast the normal characters. It could also be that the anime localizers were trying to help the lip-sync team by giving him more syllables
