Where did the stereotypical dumb blonde come from?

The best guess would be the "B" movies of the 1920's and 30's. In them, famous actresses such as Carole Lombard, Lucille Ball (yes blonde!), Gracie Allen and other commediennes would play sophisticated, slightly stupid women who eventually (1)weren't so stupid after all and (2) got the leading man. These farces were tremendously popular and made household names out of these leading ladies. They all went on to have very illustrious careers and proved that being blonde AND stupid was all a farce.

Best blonde joke EVER:

Gorgeous well heeled blonde walks into a bank and asks to borrow money. The bank employees were naturally enthusiastic about helping her, so they asked if she had collateral. She pointed out the window to a posh Mercedes Benz. When asked how much she wanted to borrow, she said $200.00.

Naturally the bank was delighted to make such a secured loan so they filled out the paperwork, took possession of the vehicle, and the blonde took her $200 and left in a taxi. About two weeks later, the blond returned...tanned, slender and much more relaxed that she had appeared before the loan. She proceeded to the loan desk and wanted to pay the loan out and get her vehicle.

The bank had no option but to honor her request, so she paid the loan and interest of $1.37 and was given the keys to her vehicle. Consumed with curiosity, the bank official could no longer contain himself and asked why, since she was so obviously well off, did she need such a tiny amount?

The blond smiled, blinked her beautiful blue eyes and said...

The car is new and I wanted to take a vacation. Since I was going to be out of the country for two weeks, what better way to make sure that the car was securely parked? In a bank's secure parking lot with armed guards or in an airport parking lot? And the cost of the airport parking would have been $7 a day, or $98 for my holiday. I just paid $1.37 for the same priviledge with better security!
