The days of the weeks were given names to help people keep track of them. Tuesday was, in many cultures, named after Mars, the god of war. In England and Scandanavian countries this gods name was replaced with that of Tiw (also known as Tyr in Norse) who was a God of War. The English word "Tiwesdæg" was modiied to Tuesday as time passed.
