The term came from Jimmy Savile, an UK DJ and media personality. It was a word that he used to describe oral sex during a scandal that broke while he was still alive. When he was referring to the word, it was describing something that he did to dead bodies, so it is probably not as appealing of a slang word as many might believe.

This is not the case. Savile may have used the term, which is early C20 military slang, but he certainly didn't invent it, and it's not confined to necrophilia. It comes from the earlier French "gamahucher".
