America's poet laureate since June, 2001, Billy Collins is a professor of English at Lehman College of the City University of New York. Collins has written six books of poetry, and has recorded a CD of his works, called The Best Cigarette. Along with his poetry included in periodicals, anthologies and textbooks, Collins has also had poems included in The Best American Poetry 2002 and The Best American Poetry 2003. He has won several poetry awards given by Poetry magazine, and, in 1992, was chosen by the NY Public Library to serve as Literary Lion.

Collins was born in New York City in 1941, and has made a name for himself as one of America's favorite poets. He is known for his use of humor and irony in his poetry. His books include: Nine Horses, Sailing Alone Around the Room, Picnic, Lightning, The Art of Drowning, Questions About Angels, and The Apple That Astonished Paris.
