Wizard Whitebeard doesn't always join Wally (Waldo) in his adventures. Though he often does join Wally (Waldo) and the rest of the gang. He first appeared in the 1989 book The Great Waldo Search. Fun fact: Whitebeard often appears with his scroll, which he often loses!

The author of Where's Wally (he's actually only named Waldo in the United States and Canada) is British illustrator Martin Handford. Handford created Wally in 1986, after his editor had asked him to create a particular character that really stood out in his somewhat crowded illustrations. The result was Wally, a unique looking world traveller.
