Very basically - Set in Rome 1800. Tosca [opera singer] and Cavaradossi [painter / artist] are in love. Scarpia [police chief] is in love with Tosca and offers to spare Cavaradossi's life in exchange for her love. She agrees so Scarpia tells her [untruthfully] they will only pretend to execute Cavaradossi and gives her a safe passage pass. She them kills Scarpia but on finding they have executed Cavaradossi she kills herself.
