The original chronicles books were written by Margret Weis and Tracy Hickman. They held an AD&D roleplaying event at their home and invited close friends to play the different characters. The Dragonlance novels were born out of the events that took place during these role playing sessions. Terry Phillips, for example, chose to play Raistlin, and his raspy voice and heavy sarcasm was worked into the books.
