Interesting writing contains imagery. Imagery is the color of things, the sound, the taste, the feeling, etc. The use of imagery puts the reader more into the writing; it engages his own experiences and memory to make the writing more lively. Imagery is the color with which writing is painted. Similes are like the brush used to paint the pictures.
