I just came into possession of a saddle with the 50111 number on a leather tag attached to the left front leather rosette. Like you, I suspect it is a Bona Allen, but with no makers mark it is hard to say. Bona Allen did make saddles for Sears & Roebuck from the 1930's t thru the 50's. You probably know this but maybe it could help. If, by any chance, you have already positively identified the saddle maker, could you verify for me that it is Bona Allen? Thanks
How old is my Bona Allen Saddle #7154
YES No. The real Bona Allen saddlery operated from 1873 to 1982.
I have a beautiful show saddle made by Bona Allen lots of tooling through out silver buckles and buttons. I emagine its at least 30 yrs old. I205 is stamped on it as well as #117664787 In great condition! How much do you think its worth?
Bona Allen Company was created in 1873.
I too have an old saddle I bought from an old farmer in 1973. I'm sure it was 20 years old when I bought it. I THINK it's a Bona Allen from the 1950's but the stamp is worn off. It needs a new cinch strap and probably some new fleece other wise I think it's in great shape. Would love to find out more about it. Thanks, janis
By mail, telephone or fax.
These plantation saddles were made by B.T. Crump company's Wilbourn in Buena Vista, Virginia in the early 1900's and around 1927 Bona Allen Saddlery in Buford GA. was making them. They were for sale in the H. Kauffman catalog.
From the 1930's throught the mid to late 1950's
"Bona" is not a Spanish word. It is actually a word in other languages such as Catalan, where it means "good" or "well."
