Once you collect the salt block, you may have it in your possession for the rest of the howrse game. Applying it to a horse may increase energy and morale according to how much energy your horse has at the moment.
Note: It doesn't matter how long you put your horse in the box for! I got a salt block when my horse was in the box for just 30 minutes.
