With a date of 1883 the coin is not a silver eagle it's a Morgan dollar and is very common in mint state condition. Retail values are $28.00-$50.00 depending on grade.

1883 Morgan dollars are very common, uncirculated coins with no mintmark sell for $50.00-$65.00. The actual value depends on the grade of the coin.

July 20, 2009 The 1883 Morgan Silver Dollar was minted in 4 different US Mint facilities; Philadelphia, Carson City, New Orleans and San Francisco. To determine which mint a coin was produced at the mintmark must be located. On the Morgan Dollar the mintmark is located on the reverse [tails] side of the coin just above the letters "DO" in the word "DOLLAR". The letters "CC" indicates the coin was minted at Carson City. The letter "O" indicates the coin was minted at New Orleans. The letter "S" indicates the coin was minted at San Francisco. If there in no letter there, then the coin was minted at Philadelphia and is represented in by 1883-P. Your coin is in "mint condition" also known as "mint state". This is an American Eagle 1 once gold coin that carries a face value of $20.00. It was minted at West Point - therefore, the coin carries the mint mark "W." If the coin is in a mint state of MS65, its value is: $980.00; if the coin is in a proof state (PF65), the value rises to: $ 1080.
In the year 2000, the American Eagle $5 Gold Coin was minted - it carried a mint mark of "S" or "W." If the coin is in a mint state of MS65, its value is: $110; if its mint state is proof (PF65), its value is: $125.
With a date of 1971 the coin is not a silver eagle it's a Eisenhower dollar with a value of $1.00 for coins found in circulation.. Only collectors coins sold from the US Mint have a premium above face value.
