The Pony Express started in April 1860 and operated until October 1861 in St Joseph MO to Sacramento CA. People in the eastern US needed a fast way to send letters to people in the west.

The Pony Express began on April 3, 1860 from St. Joe, MO, and shut down just 18 months later. It consisted of a string of some 190 relay or stock stations between St. Joe, Missouri, and California. 80 young men, many orphans, and 500 horses made up the Pony Express. The Express made 308 transcontinental runs covering 606,000 miles and carried almost 35,000 pieces of mail. In its 18 months of existence, only one mail pouch was lost!!

2-3 weeks Replies don't get any more stupid. What is the poster thinking of, the pony express? Airplanes now exist. If you mail first class, then about 5 working days. First class in the UK arrives one day after arrival and it's the US mail which slows things up.
