Which bits are best for strong horses?

it depends on the horse really, but when my mare gets strong i use a gag, then you still have the adjustment between rings, but with horses i have worked with before after school and the correct non heating feeds horses become less pully and you can lower the bit to something weaker.

The best bit for day-to-day use on a mild-tempered horse is a plain, thick snaffle with no twist. Egg-butt and D-ring models are often good choices because they're unlikely to pinch the horse's lips. Even plain "O-ring" snaffles, however, will do the job admirably (bit guards can be used if pinching is a problem).However, it's worth noting that no bit, no matter how mild or severe, will serve as a substitute for good training of both horse and rider.In unskilled hands, a twisted snaffle can cause the horse serious pain.
