Not sure what the question is but:
It is a gearbox fitted to the output of the main gearbox (transmission) and splits the drive power between the rear and front axle as demanded. It has a low range reduction selection which reduces the speed and increases the torque delivered to the wheels. It is connected to the front and rear axles via drive shafts (propeller shafts).
The unit in the 2000 Range Rover is a Borg Warner, Morse Chain driven, Viscous coupled limited slip differantial unit, which can be switched between high and low gear ratio via an electric drive unit controled by the vehicle transmission ECU. The viscous unit eliminates the need for a center diff lock as it is permanently locked only allowing limited slipping for differring axle speeds. The vehicle is permanently 4 wheel driven at all times.
You select low range by stopping the vehicle, shifting the gearshift to neutral, then moving the gearshift through the 'H' gate to the low range side. Now wait for the beeps and clicks to finish and you are now in low range. Do not attempt to drive at high speed in this gear selection, 30mph max. Low range is used when difficult terrain is traversed where better vehicle control and increased torque is required like climbing steep slopes or towing heavy loads up a steep incline. In this model low range can be used on pavement as the viscous unit will allow slipping for difference in axle speeds.
To return to high range stop the vehicle, shift the gearshift to neutral, push it over to the high range side, wait for the beeps and clicks and now resume normal driving.
The "Message Transfer Box Neutral" warning on the dashboard of a 2003 Range Rover indicates that the vehicle's transfer case is in neutral mode. This means that power is not being transmitted to either the front or rear wheels, which can occur when the vehicle is in a towing situation or if there is an issue with the transfer case. It's important to ensure that the transfer case is correctly set to either low or high range for normal driving. If the warning persists, it may indicate a malfunction that requires further inspection.
On the transmission selector you put your shifter in neutral position and then you can move the transfer case selector to high or low.
To fix a Land Rover Discovery 1 transfer case that won't engage low range, first check the transfer case linkage for any obstructions or damage, as misalignment can prevent proper engagement. Ensure that the transfer case fluid is at the correct level and in good condition. If the linkage and fluid are fine, inspect the actuator and vacuum lines (if applicable) for leaks or faults. Lastly, you may need to examine the internal components of the transfer case for wear or damage, which may require disassembly and repair.
Your Land Rover is always in 4wd you CANNOT disengage 4wd. The procedure to engage low range on a modern Land Rover ( not a series vehicle) is.1. with the vehicle stopped and the engine running and the handbrake off.2. select neutral on the transmission.3. move the transfer case lever forward in to low range. (front right)4. To engage diff-lock pull the transfer case lever to the left.note diff-lock can be engaged at any time but should not be used on hard surfaces such as Pavement, or concrete. and should not be engaged during a turn or while there is a difference in front to rear axle speed... as this WILL DESTROY your transfer case!
Yes, the word 'Rover' (upper case R) is a noun, a proper noun, the name of a person or thing such as Range Rover, a luxury SUV made by Land Rover, a division of Jaguar Land Rover. The word 'rover' (lower case r) is a noun, a common nounas a general word for a person who spends their time wandering.
The transfer case does, yes.
the filler nut is to the left of the handbrake drum on the back of the transfer case.the nut only has 4 sides to it not hexagon shape.
The problem is most likely in the transfer case or the linkage. The transfer case is bolted to the rear of the transmission on that truck. The linkage could be misadjusted, there should be three distinct positions for the transfer case, Neutral, Low and High. If you suspect the linkage disconnect the linkage and manually put the transfer case in each position and try it to see if it works, if it does it's the linkage if not the problem is in the transfer case itself.
The noun 'Rover' (upper case R) is a singular, concrete, proper noun, the name of a specific person or thing such as Range Rover, a luxury SUV made by Land Rover, a division of Jaguar Land Rover. The word 'rover' (lower case r) is a singular, concrete, a common noun as a general word for any person who spends their time wandering.
Yes, a 1970 jeep cj5 does have the low range transfer case if it is a 4wd, however, not all 1970 jeep cj5s were equipped with four wheel drive.

Installing a new transfer case on a 2003 Land Rover Freelander can be challenging, as it requires mechanical expertise and specific tools. The process involves removing various components, including the driveshaft and potentially the exhaust system, to access the transfer case. If you're experienced with automotive repairs, it may be manageable, but for those unfamiliar with such work, it's advisable to seek professional help to ensure proper installation and function.
