If it is old chrome that is rust corroded, I would use NAVAL JELLY a couple times over then follow that up with turtle wax brand chrome polish with rust remover applied with a brillo pad. Keep going over and repeating and you will get it cleaned up. Once done, dry it and apply WD40 to the chrome ;this seals the pores in the open metal to keep it looking as good as possible.
