How do you install sun visor on 1974 volkswagen beetle?

Look up on the headliner, real close to the front of the door. You should find a fairly good-size hole with two smaller holes, one to the front of the big hole, the other to the back of it. (If you don't, feel around on the headliner until you find the hole in the metal piece under the headliner, because someone replaced the headliner without cutting holes for the visors--which means YOU have to do it.) That's where the sunvisor goes. Stick the shank of the sunvisor in the big hole and attach it to the ceiling of your car with two screws.

What is the difference between a Moon roof and Sun roof if any?

A sunroof is opaque (usually flush metal with the body color on the outside). This roof can either tilt open to vent, slide open to let in light, or both. It is called a sunroof because the opacity prevents the sun from heating up the vehicle. These have existed for quite some time.In the 1970s, Ford introduced a glass sunroof that they named the Moonroof (actually, the American Sunroof Company, the company that made all domestic sunroofs and now known as American Specialty Cars invented it, but Ford was the first to install it). So to answer the question, a moonroof is a sunroof made of glass. The problem is, the distinction is becoming lost as more and more people use it incorrectly. Most people today just consider any sort of hole in the roof a sunroof. But in the strictest sense, sunroof=metal, moonroof=glass. Many think that a sunroof is clear and a moonroof is tinted. Nope, not the right answer. Others think that a sunroof will open but a moonroof will not. Wrong again. The truth is that a moonroof is actually a type of sunroof! For more info, I'm deferring to an expert, Marc Levinson of Donmar Sunroofs, who also operates the free sunroof information site. Here it is: Just as a sedan is a distinctive type of automobile, a moonroof is a type of sunroof. Sunroof is the generic term used to describe any panel in a vehicle roof which can let in light and/or air.The term moonroof was used in the 70's to describe a glass panel inbuilt electric sunroof, and is now used generically to describe all glass panel inbuilt sunroofs. An inbuilt sunroof is one where the operable panel slides between the vehicle roof and headliner, and is often powered but may be manually operated"

Is there a difference between a sunroof and a moonroof or are they both the same thing?

Can you manually close a 1999 Cougar's sunroof if it is stuck open?

I have been servicing all makes of sunroofs for over 30 years. The Cougar sunroof can be closed manually in several ways. The first thing I usually do is remove the top panel so you can see all that you are doing. You can replace the hold down screws and put the panel back in later after the sunroof is shut. The second step is to remove the motor assembly...it is located under the front dome ligh. Just pop out the lens and a couple of screws and you will ses the motor. you may have top take out the sunvisor inside clips on the headliner for a larger work area. Remove the inner trim ring of the headliner around the sunroof opening. REmove the 2 or 3 screws holding int he motor. You may now move the track assemblies manually. There are hold down tabs on the back of the tracks to hold the rear of the glass down in the closed position. once you have the sunrro closed reinstall the motor...this will keep the sunroof panel in the closed position. You will want to remove the sunroof fuse or disconnect the switch so you can not operate the unit again. I can be e-mailed at madspinner@aol.com the above answer has been changed since i wrote the response below MJ - July2015 ------- no way Mr.MadSpinner, with your "30 years experience" you don't have a clue about cougar sunroofs. I guarantee you have not worked on a cougar before or you would have remembered it. First of all, cougars do not have a glass sunroof, it is a metal panel sunroof or moonroof. Second, the cougars break their sunroofs at the RH track usually because ford made them out of plastic -- the 2001 & 2002 cougar sunroof rails are made of metal because of this flaw. One side will break and then the motor and the cable will then only pull on the other side . --- So, even if you remove the motor, the sunroof will still not close because the track and pins are broken on one side. The correct answer should be to remove the rubber trim ring inside the car and then using a t-25 torx screwdriver, remove the 4 screws that hold the roof panel onto the frame/track. From the center of the sunroof, they are at the 4 corners of the roof panel facing outward and you may have to push up on the headliner cloth to be able to see them. After removing the sunroof panel, then you will be able to easily see the broken pins and slider --- use the motor to close the sunroof while unlocking and pushing the broken side down the track. Once the shuttle is pushed down the track (or you can remove it also), then you can install the panel and carefully put the 4 torx screws back in place. You can unplug the motor or remove the fuse, so no one can try to open it again. -- Start looking for another sunroof at junk yards, but only get one out of a 2001 or 2002 cougar with the metal rails and gears. Most junk yards sell them for under $100 and the last one i found in 2014 was only $50. You can install the entire sunroof in your car in about 1 hour. The most difficult part is lowering the headliner and sliding it back out the rear hatchback --- you will use your current car's color sunroof panel and bolt it to the junkyard sunroof frame/motor with those same 4 torx bolts. It may take you 2 hours if you have never removed the visors, coat hooks, map lights, and headliner before. Don't forget to re-connect the rubber rain drain tubes. -- any questions? To remove the headliner in a 1998 Volvo S70, start by disconnecting the battery for safety. Carefully remove any trim pieces and grab handles that may obstruct the headliner, using a trim tool to avoid damage. Then, gently pull down the headliner, detaching it from the metal supports and any clips or fasteners. Finally, take care to handle the headliner carefully to avoid tearing it as you remove it from the vehicle.

Is it possible to install a sun or moonroof?

Well, yes, it CAN be done, if you're willing to pay for a large amount of bodywork and customizing of your car. It would involve chopping out the entire roof of your car and chopping the "moonroof/sunroof" section from another car just like yours, then doing the bodywork and painting to return the car to its original condition, inside and out. If you're talking about these "aftermarket" sunroof accessories, that depends on your expertise and skill as a bodywork mechanic. Why not just sell your car and buy a car with the sunroof already in it? That would save a lot of money and time on your part, and it would all be original equipment. To correctly answer the question about the sunroof/moonroof install... It is very easy to install an aftermarket sunroof provided you have the right tools such as a die-grinder(not the best, gets hot an burns paint), a jig-saw(best if you have a friend to hold the roof from shaking violently :) ) or sheet metal shear (depends on the quality, but easiest) for cutting the roof of your car, normally a template is included to cut out and step-by-step instructions (ya, its a little scary cutting a hole in your roof the first time) I have installed 3 sunroofs without any problems and it only takes about 30-40 minutes start to finish, not including the repair of the headliner. That's the most tedious part, but just requires patience, new headliner material (around $10 a yard if i remember right) and some GOOD! (3M) spray adhesive ($10-15 bux a can). Now about the moonroof, I couldn't really tell ya how difficult it is cuz that's what I am looking into right now, but chances are, if any dummy at a glass shop can install it in a car, why can't you? Actually its not as hard as the two above say it is. Now doing it yourself is a BAD idea. search the word "moonroof" through any search engine and you'll eventually find out all the thngs that can go wrong. For a few hundred bucks you can have a tilt/slide sunroof added, which is sometimes LESS than what the dealer will charge, when most of this type of sunroof is added AFTER the car has been built anyway. A moonroof, or built-in sliding sunroof would be 900-1400 bucks and would require a loss of headroom, so if you're looking for an aftermarket sunroof, you can easily get a tilt/slide one done for about the same as you would pay if it came with the car. I put a sunroof into an MGB GT which I got from a scrap yard from a Renault 16 and it went well. Take paper and pen, tape measure and tools to a scrap yard that lets you roam.Find a suitable sun/moon roof (preferably in same type of vehicle) carefully remove the old sun/moon roof make lots of notes, take lots of meaurements and use them to install in your car in reverse order. The hard part is making the first hole/cut in your roof. I marked the opening on masking tape applied to roof. Drilled pilot holes in corners to see where to cut headliner. Headliner cut in big X corner to corner and trimed up during install. Used a jig saw to cut out roof. Like I said it worked for me.

How do you remove and re-install the large round white ticket light on 2004 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor if the backing plate is bent and the lamp hangs somewhat loose from the headliner?

You should be able to just turn the entire assembly one way or another, it should come out then, you may be able to fix this problem just by turning the light in the same way. -----------------------additional contribution 11/09/07------------------------------- : On some "ticket lights", look 1 to 2 inches forward of the lamp to see if there is a round plastic grommet-looking thing stuck into the headliner. Remove this push-pin by pulling it down and the lamp assembly will slide down and out after you push forward slightly then gently pull back and down. Once the lamp is out, straighten the metal bracket out to its original long "U" shape (this is a poor ASCII graphic but gives an idea what the bracket should look like after straightening ----|__|- ). : Re-install by sliding the longer metal piece above the liner through the rectangular hole while gently pushing forward and upward. Then push the lamp up while sliding slightly toward the rear of the vehicle. Look up through the roof liner round hole (where the push-pin was) and manuver the lamp around until the hole in the metal bracket is centered with the headliner hole. Push the plastic push-pin back into the hole in the headliner and the metal bracket. If the mounting bracket was properly straightened, the "ticket light" should now be tight against the headliner fabric.
