On the 1.5dCi it's a bit of a pain. There's an idler pulley below the alternator that's adjusted with a metal quadrant held on by 2 T40 torx screws. They are very difficult to get at as the space is so tight. Cheers, Paul
To replace the alternator on a Renault Clio, first disconnect the battery to ensure safety. Remove the drive belt by loosening the tensioner, then unbolt the alternator from its mounting bracket. Disconnect the electrical connections and carefully take out the old alternator. Install the new alternator by reversing these steps, ensuring all connections are secure and the drive belt is properly tensioned before reconnecting the battery.
To change the alternator on a 1.4 16v Mk2 Renault Clio, start by disconnecting the battery to ensure safety. Remove the drive belt by loosening the tensioner, then unbolt the alternator from its mounting bracket. Carefully disconnect the electrical connections from the alternator, install the new alternator in reverse order, and reattach the drive belt. Finally, reconnect the battery and test the new alternator to ensure it’s functioning properly.
To change the alternator belt on a Renault Clio 3, first, ensure the engine is off and cool. Release tension on the belt by using a wrench to rotate the tensioner pulley counterclockwise. Remove the old belt by sliding it off the pulleys, then install the new belt, ensuring it follows the correct routing. Finally, reapply tension to the belt and check for proper alignment before starting the engine.
The Renault Clio, year 2002, has a timing belt. I believe some have timing chains but i ain't sure which.
To tighten the fan belt on a Renault Clio 1.2, first, locate the tensioner pulley. Use a wrench to loosen the bolts on the tensioner, then adjust the tensioner to increase the belt tension. Once the belt is tight, re-tighten the bolts on the tensioner to secure it in place. Finally, check the belt tension again to ensure it’s properly adjusted.
I believe it has a chain instead of a belt. Call your Renault dealer to make sure.
72K miles or 5 years (whichever comes first) for most engines. Get accessories belt (alternator belt) changed too as failure can smash timing belt cover causing belt failure.
You put your seatbelt on.

Hi, This is indicating that your battery is not charging - and if not sorted, you will find that soon your car will not start or run! Check the alternator belt is in tact -- failing that , you probably need a new alternator ! Rgds , Mike
