How do you adjust the headlights on a 2002 Jetta tdi?

There are two black adjustment knobs on the top of each headlight that accept a Phillips head screwdriver. One adjusts side to side and one adjusts up and down. I'd tell you which is which but I can't be sure because the previous owner screwed mine up.
