How do you change a rear parking light bulb in a 2005 V70 Volvo?

Check which bulb needs replacing then turn the lights off.

Open the rear hatch and remove the upholstered trim panel from behind the light cluster.

On a UK car looking into the luggage compartment the left hand side trim panel gives access to the rear lights and to a fuse box. The right hand side is smaller and provides access to the rear lights only. These panels give access to the lower three lights in the cluster.

To change either of the upper two lights

remove the speaker grille

remove the speaker by pulling out the red tab then by presssing on the black pin above this tab twist out the speaker.

To change the lower lights remove the cover panel as described above. You will see a sound deadening panel. Note how it fits and pull it out.

Get a replcement bulb ready. Counting from the top the bulbs are as follows:

1: Direction indicator 21W BAU15s (yellow)

2: Brake light 21W BA15s

3: Parking lamp 5W BA15s

4: Parking & rear fog 21/4W BA5s

5: Reversing lamp 21W BA15s

Remove shoes and climb into the boot.

If you are doing this for the first time look first at the left hand side to see how the bulbs are fitted.

The bulbs are held in long holders and the tabs on the holders protrude through holes in the metalwork. They point to 2 o clock. Take hold of the holder tab and turn it to 12 o clock. Careful it will spring out - dont drop it!

Keeping it the same way up look to see which way up it goes back.

Take the old bulb out of the holder and insert the new one. Its a bayonet fitting.

Reinsert the holder in the 12 o clock position and twist it to 2 o clock (it will stop turning)

Check its firmly in place, and test the light. If ok you can put your shoes back on!

Replace all trim panels etc.
