"A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1)
symptoms
Hard starting, bad idle and possibly stalling issues
caused by
Incorrect camshaft timing
Wiring issues (harness/wiring) in intake timing control valve control solenoid system
Steady oil flow to VCT piston chamber
Faulty timing valve control solenoid (stuck open)
the fix
This code indicated a mechanical issue, electrical troubleshooting wont help so replacement of the VCT or one of it's related components is necessary.
The P0011 code on a VW Passat 4Motion V6 indicates a problem with the camshaft timing, specifically that the camshaft is not aligning properly with the crankshaft. To fix this, start by checking the camshaft timing chain or belt for wear or misalignment. Additionally, inspect the VVT (Variable Valve Timing) solenoid and associated wiring for faults. If these components are in good condition, you may need to reset the engine's ECU or, in some cases, replace the camshaft adjuster.

Code PO117 on a 1998 VW Passat 1.8T engine (AEB) indicates an issue with the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor or its circuit. To fix this, first, check the wiring and connectors for any damage or corrosion. If they are in good condition, replace the ECT sensor, as it may be faulty. After replacing the sensor, clear the code and monitor for any recurrence.
