On my 2000 xk8 you keep the setting on the first click, this may be the intermittent setting, just leave it there. When you get into your car with rain already on the windshield you must first pull the stalk toward you, it will then re-sense the rain hitting the windshield. Jems
To use the rain sensor on a Jaguar X-Type, ensure the windshield wipers are in the "Auto" position. The rain sensor, located on the windshield, detects moisture and automatically adjusts the wiper speed based on the intensity of the rain. You can also adjust the sensitivity of the sensor using the control on the wiper stalk. If you want to override the automatic function, simply turn the wiper switch to a manual setting.
When the impact of the rain hits the windshield it sends a shock wave throught the windshield that is then picked up by an adhesive sensor attached to the windshield, which in turn activates the windshield wiper relay.
You have automatic rain sensing wipers and this is the sensor for the rain. If you turn the wipers all the way off or on, the light goes out.
