Under the hood on the drivers side there is a Positive cable connector under a black cap near the fuse/relay box. Connect you positive (+) jumper there first. Then, WITH THE KEY OFF! connect your negative (-) jumper to the big aluminum mount on the left top of the engine. Now use the key and jump start as any other car. Make sure the key is off so as not to suddenly send a spike of voltage into the CanBus network when connecting the cables!
To jump-start a Volvo XC90, first ensure both vehicles are turned off. Connect the positive (red) jumper cable to the dead battery's positive terminal and the other end to the donor battery's positive terminal. Next, attach the negative (black) cable to the donor battery's negative terminal and the other end to a grounded metal part of the XC90, away from the battery. Start the donor vehicle, then attempt to start the XC90.
