This is a little tricky. You open the trunk, no engine. You open the hood, no engine. What gives? They don't call them exotic cars for no reason. Believe it or not, in the 1998 model and others as well I'm sure, you access the upper engine compartment from the inside of the car. Depending on what you are doing, you may need to remove the passengers front seat. In any case, you will need to slide the seats forward for easier access.
You will need to keep the convertible roof up. There are several locking mechanisms located on top of the horizontal panel located behind the two head rests. Simply unlock these mechanisms, raise the panel up, slide the panel toward you (inside the car) then place it outside in a safe place. This will give you access to the top of the engine where you can change the air filter and do simple maintenance. Last year I had to change my water pump. Removing the panel behind the seat will give you better access.
In my 2003 Boxster S, the handle lifts up. The console pushes in.
dealers can do it - they have a way to get in from the engine compartment but won't share how it is done :(
The 2000 Boxter does not have a glove box.
No there is a fan on the right side of the engine compartment that draws hot air out of the engine compartment. on the right side is the engine air intake.
To open the engine compartment of a 2002 Porsche Boxster S, first, locate the release lever inside the car, which is typically found on the driver's side near the footwell. Pull the lever to unlock the rear trunk lid, which also serves as the engine cover. Then, go to the rear of the vehicle, lift the trunk lid, and use the prop rod if necessary to hold it open. The engine compartment is now accessible for inspection or maintenance.
Yes it's normal... but a little disconcerting, isn't it?!
To access the engine on a 2000 Porsche Boxster, first, open the rear trunk by pulling the release lever inside the vehicle or using the key fob. Then, remove the trunk liner by unscrewing any fasteners and gently pulling it away from the trunk walls to reveal the engine compartment. Be cautious of any components as you work, and ensure the engine is cool before touching any parts.
