German car manufacturers like to maintain the myth that automatic transmissions are sealed for life. Of course they are right if you only want the life to be about 50/60 thousand miles! This guy has very well documented bulletins on a number of VW service issues........enjoy. http://www.taligentx.com/passat/maintenance/atfchange/
For automatic transmission: remove transmission dipstick, put fluid in dipstick tube with funnel. be careful not to overfill.
in the transmission fluid reservoir under the hood
the transmission dip stick is red, you use funnel to put fluid in there
in dip stick tube
You add fluid at the same place you check it.
The fluid goes down the dipstick tube.
under the car directly in gear box
as long as it is an automatic transmission, you put ATF in
down the dipstick tube
you have to put it in the dipstick hole.
You wouldn't want to do that because starting with the 2002 model Ford Explorer ( four door ) there is no automatic transmission fluid dipstick / dipstick tube that would allow you to put in automatic transmission fluid at home
Down the dipstick tube.
