To remove the radio on a 1992 Jaguar XJ6:
1. Open the center console storage compartment.
2. Remove the two screws closest to the ashtray.
3. The ashtray can now be pulled straight up.
4. Disconnect the electric cable for the sports mode button.
5. Underneath the stick shift trim, there are two wing nuts, loosen these.
6. CAUTION: Carefully reach underneath the shifter assembly and remove the plastc, chrome retainer trim which holds the shifter base, by gently pushing on the side tabs. Note that if you break the tabs, you will need to buy a new ring or you will not be able to hold the shifter base in place. This small, insignificant looking plastic retainer trim will cost you upwards of $80.
7. Once the plastic retainer trim is out. The trim cover comes off easily.
8. Remove the screws holding the AC Controls, radio and pull out.
9. Disconnect all cabling. The radio should now be easy to remove.
10. Reverse steps to install.
