There are what are called 'grub' screws holding the torsion leaves in the center of the 'beams' and at the suspension arms. Disassemble your outer suspension parts (varies depending on ball joint or link pin style suspension). Loosening these grub screws at both ends and they slip out of the torsion tubes. Be ready for them to be extremely filthy from years of grease being pumped intothe torsion tubes. You will notice there are depressions drilled into the sides of the torsion leaves to hold them in place. Be sure to keep them in the right order and direction of rotation (right side verses left side, inside and outside) as they don't like being compressed differently once they have been used. If you are replacing them with new don't worry about this.

How do you raise the front of a 67 bug?

To raise the front of a 1967 Volkswagen Beetle, you can adjust the torsion bars in the front suspension. This typically involves loosening the bolts that hold the front beam and then turning the adjustment screws to increase the height. Alternatively, you can install a lift kit designed for the Beetle, which may include new springs or spacers. Always ensure to check the alignment after making any adjustments to maintain proper handling.

What is the easiest way to properly raise the rear end of a 1969 Volkswagen Bug so that the clearance is sufficient enough to pull into a driveway.?

You really need the Bentley Manual as this could be really DANGEROUS. The only way to raise or lower it is to take apart the suspension. The spring plates that connect to the Torsion bars are under several hundred pounds of pressure. They have "torsion bars" that you can rotate to raise or lower it. The "torsion bars" have splined ends, one end is fine (eg40) and the other is coarse (eg20). You rotate the bars one way and the cover the other way to raise it a lot or a little. Do a search on the internet as there are places that walk you through it also. Be aware as you may have to have the rear end realigned.

How do you replace VW Bug torsion bar system?

Your best bet would be to purchase a Haynes manual. Remember... safety first! Jist: disconnect brake lines, remove hub cap , loosen lug nuts, remove cotter pin and 36 mm, jack up car and secure on jack stands, remove wheel, remove drum brake, remove emergency brake cable, remove the clip holding brakeline and disconnect brakeline from the trailing arm. remove lower shock mount, notch the trailing arm and spring bar to ease realignment, remove driveshaft. remove 17 mm Allen nut on trailing arm and the three bolts holding trailing arm to torsion arm... remove trailing arm. Put a jack under the torsion arm and jack it up until the arm lifts slightly off of the stops. Remove the four bolts and the torsion plate, remove the outter bushing. IMPORTANT: (do at your own risk) do not get any part of your body underneath the torsion bar while in this position... you could get hurt. With a prybar, pry the torsion arm past the stops and slowly lower your jack. Once the torsion arm is under no stress, use an angle finder to find the angle (will help with reassembly). Remove the torsion arm and inner bushing. Remove the torsion bar. Assemble... in reverse probably... haven't done it yet. Hope this helps.
