To replace the thermostat on a 2005 VW New Beetle, first, ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Remove the engine cover, then drain the coolant from the radiator. Disconnect the hoses from the thermostat housing and remove the housing bolts to take out the old thermostat. Install the new thermostat, reattach the housing and hoses, refill the coolant, and reconnect the battery.

In a 2000 VW Beetle, the thermostat is located within the engine compartment, specifically in the cooling system. It is typically found at the engine end of the upper radiator hose, where the hose connects to the engine. To access it, you may need to remove the hose and possibly other components for better visibility. Always ensure the engine is cool before attempting to locate or service the thermostat.
