How to replace a battery for the keyless remote (fob) VW Passat 06? This took me several attempts and finally a trip to my local dealer.

1. Depress the silver tab to release the valet key. 2. With the tab still depressed, slide the silver top to the left and out. 3. Now you will begin to see the internal components. To fully pull out tray apply tweezers to lift off the top black cover. 4. You will see a cut out now with the battery.

If your code is lost you will have to reprogram the fob. On the 2006 Passat, you must pry the cover off of the manual key slot. Observe from the bottom there is a slot. Place the key in the slot, at the same time pry from the bottom and the whole cap will come off revealing the keyhole. With a good fob put power to the car but do not start the engine.. With a manual key, lock the door. Now press the fob you are trying to train twice. It should take the code.

Unlock the door, remove the good fob and test the new fob. It should work.
