If a 1992 BMW 325i engine with about 200K miles pinks under acceleration can it be the timing?

AnswerFirst off when was the last time the timing belt was replaced. Go ahead an check the timing it won't hurt. But my guess is this is not the problem. As long as it's set correct the computer should be adjust the timing to matc the needs. Does the car have the stock ECU or one of the popular after market Dinan, Conforti... chips. If this is the case you need to be running 91+ octane fuel. And I agree with having the system cleaned and no matter what run a good mid to high octane fuel. the timing is computer controlled so unles it has gotten WAY off somehow then this is not your problem it could be caused by dirty fuel injecotors or poor grade gasoline.
