- The easiest way is to add few liters of diesel, press and hold fully accelerator pedal and try to start the engine. It should start within 10-20 sec.
- More difficult way is - open fuel filter - fill the filter right up with fresh diesel. Try to start the engine.
- Safe way - Call assistance and ask to remove air from fuel system ($$$)
Be aware:
Fuel pomp do not like to pomp air - $$$
Most diesel engines are hard to start when it is cold. Plugging the diesel engine block heater in will help the engine start.
The Mercedes website is a great place to start (www.mbusa.com). This site offers detailed make/model comparisions and includes a locator for dealers in your area.
No, the Mercedes Sprinter did not start using diesel emissions fluid until the 2010 model year.
It might not start at all, and if it does start, it will run rougher.
A diesel engine uses a high pressure fuel system, which means that it can't have air in it,it's kinda like the hydraulic brake system,if their is air in it,it won't work right. when you run a diesel out of fuel,it sucks in a bunch of air, which must be bled out of the system,in order for it to re-prime its self. if you don't get the air out, then, the diesel fuel will only travel up so far into the fuel line, until it is stopped by air, that's why a diesel is so hard to start after you run them outta fuel.
To begin with you will smell diesel after parking. You will also have your coolant system start overflowing because it will be filling up with diesel. The crack will allow the injector to push diesel into the coolant.
no diesel
basically, it won't start. Usually no damage is done, and the car can be started whenit gets warmer. If you've been using low-quality diesel you may have to clear out filters first.
Drain out all of the gas, change fuel filter, add diesel, prime system, cross fingers, start, and hope for no other problems
